The artistry of Salomon Ruiz has been featured in the East Valley TribuneI was born in 1946 in Ancash Peru I am a selftaught artist dedicating myself to ceramics and craftmaking since my youth I specialize in masks influenced by the Vicus Moche and Nazca cultures I focus largely on the mix of form and color despite a lack of formal training I have created a unique personal style I try to always remember my roots while also learning from my readings and travels Everyday I hope to improve myself and achieve a style that is both gratifying for me and for those who are interested in my work Now that I know my art will reach many people I dedicate all my efforts and emotion into creating pieces that will resonate in your hearts and minds Thank you Ruiz uses a unique process in which he first shapes the piece by hand from clay After firing it at a temperature of 1832F he applies bright enamels and gilt The finished piece is then bathed in a coat of clear enamel which protects and enhances the vivid and expressive use of color
