My name is Kwasi Agyeman Addo Atiase and I am a jewelry artist with a talent for creativity and design. I was born in Accra in 1972.
I became interested in crafting jewelry after seeing my older brother create calabash earrings. I taught myself and learned how to weave a cord and how to carve the hard way. I practiced a lot to master this craft and my desire to succeed kept me going.
In 1995, I attended a fair trade exhibition and met an exporter who loved my work and suggested I create coconut buttons. I stayed up two nights in a row to make samples. The exporter loved them and said I should improve the finishing touches. But he couldn't buy from me because I took too long, as I did everything by hand. I decided to create necklaces, bracelets and earrings, however, I still make some coconut buttons.
I am always happy when I'm crafting jewelry and I'm passionate about my work. I use coconut, bamboo and glass beads. My inspiration comes from within and from other works of art.
I hope to obtain more equipment to be able to speed up my work. I want to have more creative and unique designs to sell to people around the world. And I dream of having a workshop of my own.
