Brazil has one of the richest diversity of gemstones in the world. In fact, more than a hundred different gems have been discovered in Brazil. They are mostly obtained through artisanal mining procedures, and only four Brazilian states are responsible for its gemstone production, including Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso and Bahia.<br><br>Rio Grande do Sul is considered the largest producer of agates in the world. One of the most beautiful gems, only 40% of agates mined here are dyed to achieve a vivid coloring, compared to the 90% of agates mined elsewhere that require dying procedures.
