Carpenters of Atitlan

The Carpenters of Atitlan group was formed in 2014 as a part of four schools belonging to a social program. The program also teaches iron work, computing and tailoring with the objective of offering low income families nearby the opportunity to learn a trade. This will enable them to create a steady income for their families, who can also get ahead in the community. "Time has filled us with wonderful experiences. Thanks to the education we offer, we've gained the trust of the people we want to help and we feel very proud of this," organizers say. Today, the group of artisans has grown significantly and has been a great help to the community. Thanks to the abilities learned in these schools, many of the students who successfully graduated have found employment in the local job market and have improved the quality of life for themselves and their families. Thanks to these schools ad their efforts, the program has received a number of awards, such as the Great Non Profits Top List Charity (2010-2016), the Rotary International Service Above Self Award (2012), and the Paul Harris Fellowship by Rotary International (2010). Sales of work by the Carpenters of Atitlan benefit the programs of all four schools. When you purchase them, you're supporting this wonderful endeavor and are making a difference in the lives of local families. These designs take on the essence of Guatemalan culture and are crafted from the woods grown in the region. The carpentry tradition has deep roots in the country and in this area, and we focus on preserving our customs while moving toward modern techniques.
